A curiosity ... Not sure if it has anything to do with tariffs ... but this is my first time to see a PIL Container Ship in Seattle. The red hull and blue containers give the ship a unique appearance. Read about KOTA LUKIS Container Ship |
Stamps - Hint of History
What is the most valuable, rare USPS stamp? Answer: The 1918 USPS 24 cent airmail stamp featuring the Curtiss JN-4 “Jenny” biplane (image below ... NOT in my collection 😓)
In 1918, one sheet, of 100 stamps, was inadvertently printed with the plane upside down. The stamp was printed in two passes: first the red frame, then the blue plane. One sheet inadvertently had the plane printed upside down—likely due to the sheet being rotated or the print plate misaligned during the second pass. Of the 100 stamps possibly still in existence, the most recent auction of one “Inverted Jenny” sold for approximately $2 million.

Skies
The morning of the Full Buck Moon was partly cloudy and I was afraid I would miss my monthly picture of the Full Moon. I'm happy with the way a break in the clouds allowed the shot below.

While watching and waiting for hummers I noticed a crow sitting atop a utility pole across the street. I believe most folks think of crows as a nuisance. But really, they are an interesting bird. |

Closing thought ...
Sharing ... Do you get daily emails from those you've done business with in the past? Especially ones that might be health related? Well, I do. One of the issues I have with this is all the advertising that is included. I recently received an email from WebMD entitled 13 Ways to Beat the Afternoon Slump. As I read through it, I didn't really encounter anything new, but thought it was nice to see several good tips organized and well presented. So, I copied the information, removed the ads, and share it with you below. Let me know if you enjoy. 😊
Thank you for stopping by John's Island. I look forward to hearing from you in the comments.
John
As usual, John, I enjoyed your wonderful post. And I like also to see those tips for keeping the body happy was quite interesting. You do a good job with these eclectic collections. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHello, John
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome collection of ships in the harbor, there is a lot of marine traffic. I am glad to hear the ferries are there to help out with rescues if needed. My favorite photo is of the Coast Guard Eagle. I know a few couples that are on cruises more than they are at home.
The dogs are so cute, adorable photo. I love your hummingbird and the crow photos. I think the Year of the Snake stamp is cool. Beautiful moon photo. Have you felt any rumbles from Mt. Rainier? I also get emails from WebMd, great tips for the afternoon slump. Thanks so much for linking up and sharing your critter post! Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment and for the poem.
This was a delightful read! Loved the critters section and the practical tips to beat the afternoon slump. Keep up the great posts!
ReplyDeleteYou always have so many interesting photos and facts in your posts. I can tell it takes you quite a while to put it all together and I appreciate that! :)
ReplyDeleteMy kind friend John, I've been waiting for one of your fun-filled posts. :^) First of all, love all the different sea vehicles; I can't imagine living so close to the water. Second, love that rare stamp and I heard of it many years ago but now worth $2 million?? Incredible. Third, love the birds (hummingbirds were my mom's favorite & she fed dozens daily). And finally, good tips for these afternoon slumps--in all honesty, this is becoming more an issue with me the last couple years. Thanks John!
ReplyDeleteI love the boats and it's always fun to see the stamps you show. I read the list at the end and need to do more of those things this summer. I do drink lots of water and don't sit down for very long at a time. I don't really like naps though! I'm afraid I'll miss something! AND...you are so sweet to include poems in so many of your comments. I've been reading AND enjoying each and every one. You sure are a sweet friend and a delight on our critter's posts each Saturday. Sweet hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteI always love looking at boats and trying to figure out what they are carrying and where they are going. My app tells me that the Golden Bear training ship is tied up near Mare Island Shipyard in California right now.
ReplyDeleteI do 2 of the 13 suggestions to beat the afternoon blues. I will try some of these.
ReplyDeleteI like seeing all of the boats and the crew of the Golden Bear. Good advice for the afternoon slump!!
ReplyDeleteHello John
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoyable to see and read your posts.
I think your photograph of the Full Buck Moon is a lovely one.
So pleased you included a picture of one of your hummers.
An interesting read to Beat the Afternoon Slump ... I think hot weather makes it worse for many! So important to keep hydrated.
Enjoy the remainder of your weekend, and indeed the month of July.
All the best Jan
Great ship contents today. And I've noticed that when I'm tired in the afternoon I can either walk or nap, same results. As in your list!
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful collection of thoughts and images. i especially loved the hummingbird, my feeders have attracted so many this year!! that is a very nice image of the buck moon and two brothers mountains!! i really enjoyed your closing thoughts, a great read for everyone!!
ReplyDeleteHello John , Thank you for your much appreciated comment. I didn't know you are a bard.Well done John, for it must be hard, to write in rhyme about a post, each verse a tribute to the host. That is as far as I can go but you have a natural flare for poetry for I have noticed your verses on other blogs. Your post is so interesting and diverse, The sailing ships and boats are all for different uses, and I enjoyed reading about them. Loved seeing the pups, humming bird, crow, and snake on the stamp. The upside down plane stamp is a valuable peculiarity .Your photos of the moon and mountains are
ReplyDeletelovely and the health tips are well worth taking note of.
All the best
Sonjia.
Good morning, John: It’s always a pleasure to see your name pop up in my blog feed, with the sure knowledge that I will be treated to an eclectic mix of news, views and items to view and ponder from your extensive collection. Thanks for including a picture of a crow, a highly intelligent, under-rated bird, and a firm favourite in my world. I am not sure that I had ever heard the term Full Buck Moon, but your picture of it is delightful. As for afternoon naps, I do it regularly and highly recommend it. It’s amazing how refreshed you feel after a snooze of fifteen or twenty minutes. Hope you had a great weekend. All the best - David
ReplyDeleteI was on a super long break and was happy to see your posts after coming back. I have a soft spot for cargo ships and I always enjoy seeing your photos of them and colourful sailboat. The Buck Moon photo and the Kerry Park photos are lovely. I love catnaps (with a cat) and music is a must when I work.

I am relieved I can enjoy the afternoon slump since I retired.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I love crows. Such clever birds. It is amazing to hear them in the mornings disciplining the young ones which have distinctive voices.
Love the photos of the ships.so much to observe about them. Glad to see the tariffs haven’t stopped all trade.
So many wonderful photos to look at here. Great shot of the moon.
ReplyDeleteWe rarely get very not weather here. Today it's sunny and in the 70's.
Good advice to get over the afternoon slump.
Your photo of the full moon is awesome, as are your captures of the activity out in the harbour. After taking the course about crows, I have been paying more attention to them, now recognizing the meaning behind what they are up to.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, John! I love seeing the stamps as well!
ReplyDeleteSo many different ships! The carho ships indeed look like there's a lot of space on the container ship, usually they are packed high. It might be because of the tariffs. I love hummingbirds, too, but I also like crows of which we have many in my neighborhood. Good tips for the afternoon slump - I usually take a good afternoon nap of about 30 minutes, it sure does wonders to my energy level. The photo of the full moon is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHi John, thank you so much for the lovely poem you put in a comment on my blog. I greatly appreciate it, dear friend! I hope you are keeping these, I think you could have a lovely book made with all the beautiful poems you have written. I hope you have a fantastic rest of the weekend and week ahead!
ReplyDeleteAlways a treat to see your posts, John.
ReplyDeleteThat harbor scene is stunning.
Those stamps are always a fun surprise.
I'm visiting again today to thank you for my poem. I wish I could reciprocate! But I better not try. I'll leave the poetry to you my friend and wish you a blessed week ahead! It's too hot to walk here this week. Wish I could join you! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteMe gusto la foto de la una y la de los animales. Buenos consejos siempre camino. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome, John. It's amazing how something as simple as opening the blinds can change your mood. Especially I think if you have a stunning view like yours. My husband also bought binoculars and now we're looking at the mountains when the day is clear. I hope all is well with you, John.
ReplyDeleteThose ship pictures are really cool. I think it's neat how you spotted two RoRos together and all the different training ships. It's also super interesting about the "Inverted Jenny" stamp and how much it's worth now.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend John! Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting.
ReplyDeleteDear John,
ReplyDeleteYou're too special of a person for me to stop by your blog, then read and run back to my life without even a salutation; but I see I did just that after my last visit. Please forgive me for taking so long to return and leave a comment. Perking one's day up from sunrise to sunset - "Open the Blinds" was the first words on my lips everyday when I was in rehabilitation. What a difference when sunlight changes the atmosphere in ones room from gloom to hope.
Tim's photo of his two pups is so totally cute. The Year of the Snake never looked so good, but two million for a tiny square of paper, well, I guess it all depends on one's passions in life. Love all the harbor, ship and sky views of your daily walks. I get so happy when I spy a hummingbird visiting our native clematis in the garden as I sit at the deck table. I am reminded of your joy of feeding the hummers. There is someting magical in being visited by one. I think you have given me the subject of my next writing, if my brain will conjure up a tale before Christmas. Being creative is like climbing a mountain, and each year the mountain seems taller and taller.
A big hug to one of my best friends in this blog world. Yvonne.
