| Anna's Hummingbird July 5, 2026 |
Moving on from my previous post, Happy 4th, to share a happy capture of an Anna's Hummingbird just to the side of my front deck on Sunday, July 5. I believe she is one of my regular visitors, although that is truly difficult to say for sure. Clear blue skies provided plenty of sunshine. Temps in the mid-70s, which seemed like a blessing considering the heat wave over most of the Eastern USA.
The World
In the image below you'll see 3 cruise ships here in Seattle on July 1st. The ship closest is the Virgin Brilliant Lady, then the Carnival Miracle, and further out, The World. Yes, that's the name of the ship. Turns out people on that ship own their staterooms/homes/apartments and, if they wish, they sail with the ship wherever it goes. (Excuse me for this, but, yes, it simply sails around the world.) According to The World's website, they call the homes "residences". There are 165 residences of various sizes. Each year, a very limited number of private residences priced from USD $3.5 million to USD $15 million become available for resale. According to the website, Residence 1106 is currently “accepting offers” above USD $4,750,000. Details are on the website. Quick Eagle Update
If you've been with me since early this year you'll know I've been following Bald Eagles from hatch to fledge on the YouTube stream provided by Friends of Big Bear Valley. The Eaglets, Sandy and Luna, fledged on June 28 and 29. I've continued to keep an eye on the stream and, yes, the birds have returned to the nest everyday so far. The parents are bringing food to the nest for them. Below is a brief video of food delivery to the two young Eagles on Sunday afternoon, July 5, at about 4:37PM ... this is about one week after fledge ...

It is cool seeing the ships all lined up.
I am not sure if I would want a home on a ship, it seems 7days on a cruise was enough for me. I like seeing the eaglets returning to the nest and being fed. Soon they will be finding all their food on their own. Take care, enjoy your day! Have a great week ahead.
Hummingbirds are a favorite of mine. They flit so quickly outside my kitchen window that I don't often get to see them! Thanks for sharing yours with me!

...we have had hummingbirds visit the flowers in our garden. They are a delight.
ReplyDeleteI love to travel, but have not taken a cruise. So many people on those ships...too much for me! lol You have a lovely shot of the hummingbird. I have a male/female pair visiting my feeder.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll pass on that particular apartment, thanks all the same. I've never been cruising, would like to one day but it's not on my bucket list :) The eagles are fascinating, still waiting to be fed by mum and dad, I wonder when they will leave and become independent.
ReplyDeleteI think there would be better use for nigh on 5 million and not wasted on a state room on floating hotel. They are polluting the planet as well no matter what they say. Hummingbirds are just a dream here we don’t have them

We have just returned from a visit to Vancouver Island where we saw these little beauties every day - and a few Rufous Hummingbirds for good measure. We were almost neighbours for a while, us up in Victoria, you down in Seattle! Very best wishes - David

yes it's difficult to be sure about birds who visit regularly ,it reminded me of a starling who had got it's one leg broken and it had made it easy to recognize her among other birds who would surround me or my mother in yard daily in my hilltop house :) it had made me curious definitely about other birds as well and i realized most of them were same who visited regularly :)
o the video is just beautiful! how wonderful that despite both eaglets are able to fly their parents are feeding them until they learn how to hunt , this amazes me deeply how nature has formed a circle of love ,bonding and care on the name of "family"
amazing to learn that many rich people like to live on ships and love sailing throughout the world ,what a perfect name :)
