Marine Fire and Spring Walks

Morning of May 18 ...
This scene sent me for the camera.

I happened to look out on Elliott Bay on the morning of May 18 to see the scene above. Putting the binoculars on this made it even more strange. Vietnam Coast Guard 8020 appeared to be on fire ... at least there was plenty of smoke. Checking on Seattle Fire Department dispatch revealed the following ...

If I counted correctly, 19 units were dispatched
for Marine Fire on Water.

About 15 minutes later the dispatch was cancelled. I do not know what happened but did find out that this ship had been the US Coast Guard Cutter John Midgett WHEC-726. Photo below ...

USCGC John Midgett was transferred (sold? given?) to Vietnam and
refurbished in Seattle earlier this year. Renamed Vietnam CG 8020. Photo below ...

Nice looking Cutter when not on fire.

Spring Walks ...

My daily walks have been along the Seattle waterfront, where I almost always find something for the camera.

Blooms ...

Birds ...

Bunnies ...

Ship names ...

How do you like GLYKOFILOUSSA ?
Ship names are a fascination to me.

GLYKOFILOUSSA, a bulk carrier,
visited Grain Terminal 86

Along the walk ...

I start here and walk about 1 1/2 miles turn around and come back
for a total of  about 3 miles.

My favorite tree on the walk.
Photo on left taken April 14.
Photo on right taken May 13.

On a clear day, May 11th, the view of Mt Rainier
from the waterfront was sweet.

The Purple Martin are great birds to see, I am glad they have some houses set up for them. The Bunnies are adorable. Gorgeous view of Mt Rainier and a lovely sunset. I appreciate you linking up your post and for leaving me a comment. Take care, have a great day and a happy weekend.

  11. Hello John
I hope all is well and you are enjoying these last days of May.
We've had lovely weather these past few days and I've enjoyed some lovely local walks ... I really should take photographs though!

Take care, both Eddie and I send our good wishes.

    All the best Jan

  12. It is really good to see those nesting gourds for the Purple Martins. Aerial insectivores need all the help we can give them.
