Sailboat Demise

About my daily walks along the waterfront ... I've said it before ... Every day the steps are the same but the story is different. Since my last post I've watched the demise of a sailboat over a few days. Even others who walk-the-walk have asked if I know what happened. So, as much as I know is in the photos below.

Re Sailboat demise story ...
I am not a sailboat enthusiast.
All of my observations
here are "non-expert" in nature.

The boat appeared anchored or run aground.
Lots of rocks along this shore and this spot is shallow
.

I could see a sign on the cabin door but couldn't read it.
Fortunately, max zoom on the camera revealed the message.
At this point, I did not know if someone might be inside.

My walk map from Aug 20
showing location of
Sailboat demise.

Other snaps along recent walks ...

Sunrise from the trail.
The large building is headquarters for Expedia Group

A pretty tree lost about half its leaves in just one
night. I don't know why.

A few days after the tree lost leaves I noticed another walker
snapping photos of the tree. I asked her if she knew what happened.
She said no, but she felt sad about the tree and its leaves.
She pointed out to me that the leaves are heart-shaped.
I really like the heart-shaped leaves.

A scene along the walk on a clear morning.

You never know what you'll find.

This is a good spot to sit and enjoy the views.

What I liked here was the fresh amongst the old.

A big marine crane has been at work on some upgrades
to the grain facility where grain is transferred to ships.

Seattle has a homeless problem.
I've seen someone sleeping at this bench several times.
I don't know the circumstances.
I hope some brilliant person will come up with
a solution to Seattle's homeless problem.
Of course, it's just my assumption that he is homeless.

I had to post this photo because ...
For the first time, 3 hummingbirds were on one of my feeders,
and I happened to have the camera handy.
This sharing behavior is unusual!
This is the only photo in this post snapped at home.

Closing thought ...
Quote by a forest ranger at Yosemite National Park on why it is hard to design the perfect garbage bin to keep bears from breaking into it: "There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists."

  1. Good but of documenting of the sail boat demise does make you wonder why the owner left it. Do like seeing your humming birds

  2. I do wonder what happened to that boat. And I received Episode 12 from the Alone series last week, nothing this week, with no clue as to what happened to the last three survivors. Do you know where I can find out?

    1. Hi DJan, I have a rather unusual watch routine for ALONE. I like to watch very early in the morning when I know I will have an hour or so without distractions. With that in mind, so far I've finished Episode 8. So, I don't know who the winner is. However, if you will log in to Amazon, go to Prime Video, click on My Stuff, you should see the ALONE Series 8 you are watching. When I look at mine I see Episodes 9, 10, 11, and 12. Judging by the titles of the Episodes, it looks like #11 will have your answer. Hope this helps.

  3. Wow, it is strange the owner of the sailboat just let the boat sink there right next to the shore. Interesting sequence of photos showing the boat. I hope the tree is ok, I am a tree hugger. The leaves here look awful from the cicada damage. Pretty scenic views of the trees, water and trail. The painted rocks are a popular sight to find in various places. The 3 hummer photos is one of my favorites. Take care, enjoy your weekend.

  4. I do wonder why someone would leave a sailboat to fill with water. I have seen many trees around here that are also losing their leaves. It has been so very dry, so I'm sure that’s the reason. It is indeed rare to see Hummingbirds share a feeder.
    Great picture.

  5. So sad to watch the boat sink but interesting too.
You are so right, walking the same route is always different. :)

  6. I'm surprised that someone didn't rescue the sail boat. There must be some organization that looks after lost property.

  7. Hi JOHN,
I don't understand how an owner of a yacht could let this happen- boy, if I owned a Yacht I'd certainly look after it...it is amazing how some people think...or perhaps the yacht's owner is ill or something and couldn't get to the yacht to move it- or something like that. Anyway- stay safe and well there John. Regards. KEV.

  8. That sail boat is a puzzle. Stolen and abandoned? I’d be upset if I owned her.

Love the definition of your photos.

The hummers are ready to co-operate after competing all season.

  9. Three hummingbirds John!!! That's awesome! And very interesting about the demise of the sailboat. It makes a person very interested in knowing what happened and why it was left to a watery grave like that!

  10. Hello John
That is rather strange about the sail boat, I must say your photographs captured its demise very well.

The season is changing and Autumn (Fall) is upon us. Many leaves are beginning to fall and it is nice to see the different colours and shapes of the leaves. I like that heart one you share.

How lovely to see the three hummingbirds, such a nice sight.

    Enjoy these September days.

    All the best Jan

  11. John--I'm surprised that local Seattle authorities or the Coast Guard did not notice or do anything about this apparently abandoned sailboat.

I love the spectacular blue color of the flower you snapped a picture of. Do you know the name of the flower?

  12. It seems like such a waste to let a sailboat sink like that. I wonder what the story was. I'm very concerned about the homeless issues. We see them here in Puyallup as well.
