Leaves

This fall we decided to slow down and enjoy the beauty of the season right down to the individual leaves.  Here are some of my recent photos, for the most part unedited, except to resize for the web.  Some are favorites because of the lighting, others for the setting, colors, or other unique features.  Leaves are like fingerprints ... similar, yet different ... sometimes in tiny ways.  The more I focused on individual leaves, the more awe I felt for the power of the universe that creates these small slices of our world.  Hope you enjoy, appreciate your kind comments, and thanks for stopping by John's Island.

One so different

Fresh, yet old

Some, of what used to be all, remains

Like highways:  veins lead to petiole.  Did you know "petiole"?

Ablaze

Liked the arrangement here and in the next few.

In all photos, the leaves are as I found them.

Note the "blade"

Amazing RANGE of colors

Liked the shadow

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. John - these are simply beautiful. I too love to look at individual leaves or patterns of leaves and so enjoy the beginnings of fall. Most or ours are on the ground now, and when it stops raining, I'll get out and rake them up into huge piles to protect the garden beds... but in the meantime I needed to tell you how beautiful your photographs are. Such a delight.

  6. John, you certainly have a great eye for capturing the beauty of autumn! Outstanding color, detail, lighting and texture in these stunning images. I love the fall season because of the gorgeous leaf colors and migrating birds. I only wish it lasted a bit long so we could enjoy the brilliant colors. Gorgeous post!
