King Street Station Seattle

King Street Station, Seattle, Washington
A major renovation has returned the Station to its original
1906 glory.

Completion of the project was celebrated this week in Seattle.

Over the years the Station was allowed to fall into poor condition
and the amazing ceiling was covered.

King Street Station was the destination for passengers arriving
via transcontinental rail from the East.

Main room ceiling is amazing!

We visited the Station on Thursday to snap these photos to share
here on the Island.

Original seating, accomodating over 100 years
of passengers, still looking good.

Boarding spot for the Coast Starlight ...
one of the premier rail trips down the West Coast.

The ceiling was covered over in the 50s to make the large room
easier to heat.

Sign posted in the Station shows historical photos.

Enlargement from the sign.

Looking down the platform.

Seattle can be proud of the competion of this project!

Last glimpse of ceiling beauty.
Thank you for stopping by John's Island.

Just an ordinary scene but the shadows were impressive.

Ever wonder how many blooms on just one tree?

Pink trees say SPRING

[More] April at Green Lake

Today's sunrise, Friday, April 12, 2013
at Green Lake, Seattle, Washington
Compared to April 9 (previous post) -- such different colors

The Blue Herons are back after an absence of a couple of months.
This one seemed OK with my snapping a photo nearby
but then took flight.  I don't like to disturb them so much.
This is an enlargement from a cell phone photo.

Thank you for stopping by John's Island.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter to all of you. Some beautiful weather here in Seattle encouraged us to get out and snap a few photos to share. The shot above was taken yesterday near Green Lake and the one below a couple of days ago in the Skagit Valley. As you can see, it's a good year for daffodils.

Thanks for stopping by John's Island.

Stopping by the Conservatory

Typical of the beauty in the Conservatory

Volunteer Park Conservatory, Seattle, Washington

Stopped by the Conservatory on Thursday, March 7, 2013, on an afternoon with plenty of sunshine to light up the green house.

Several photos below show one of the interior rooms and some examples of the wonderful flowers on display.

Reflection ...

Sorry about this, but hope it qualifies for Weekend Reflections.  Yes, that is John's Island's Proprietor trying to take a self portrait using one of the "mirror spheres" in the Conservatory.

Sky Watch

The picture below was taken this morning (Friday, March 8th) at Green Lake just after dawn. Typical for the kind of weather we are currently experiencing in Seattle, we had morning fog in places which will probably burn off to clear skies later in the day.

Check out more skies at Skywatch Friday

Thanks to all my followers for stopping by and hello to new visitors. Your kind comments are always welcome. I have found many interesting blogs thanks to the comments left here!  A good weekend to all!

More of This and That

A couple of my favorite blogs used "This and That" in titles for recent posts. It seemed fitting for today's John's Island post and I thank my blogging friends for the idea.

Reflections ...

At Green Lake this past week.  I admire the rowers but
would rather have the job of the one in the
red coat behind them.

Out of the archives.
The infinity pool at Molokai Ranch Resort, Molokai, Hawaii, 2003.
Sadly, the Resort is no longer in operation.

Sky Watch ...

The past week has been cloudy and wet.
I never thought I would say it, but I've grown to love this climate.

Birding or sky watch ... either way, I like this shot.

Trying to capture the Full Snow Moon on the morning of Feb. 26th.
The clouds made it a challenge, but got a glimpse during a break.
More SkyWatch Friday photos

Looking forward to Spring ...

From the archives, this flower was growing alongside the infinity pool pictured above.  Probably grows all year in Hawaii, but gets me thinking about Spring around John's Island.

Thanks for stopping by John's Island and a good weekend to all!
