North to Alaska 2018
In the days ahead I'll be sharing some photos from my trip to Alaska on Holland America's Zaandam (August 27, 2018 to September 10, 2018). Keep in mind that I don't consider myself a "typical cruiser." For example, some folks enjoy the nightly entertainment, the endless food, or shopping in ports. I'm more interested in the scenic beauty, the nature and wildlife to be seen, and, especially, the operation of the ship. I snapped the shot above on August 30, as the Zaandam was winding its way into the narrow Tracy Arm fjord. As I'm posting this picture I'm wondering why I didn't give the ship's bell a ring ... it just didn't occur to me at the moment. Next time for sure.

Hello, I like the photo and view of the bell. I with you as far as the cruising goes, I enjoy the scenery and wildlife. Have a happy day!

DeleteLooking forward to the blogs on your cruise, btw I got the new Canon SX740, my son has my old one
ReplyDeleteHi Bill, Thank you for the comment. Congrats on the new SX740! I will have to check it out. All the pics coming up of my cruise were taken with the SX730. Be on the watch for a close up of an eagle snapped at Icy Strait Point, AK. It was way up in a tree and someone said ... See that spot of white up there? These little cameras are as good as some binoculars! Have a great day!
DeleteI am looking forward to seeing your pictures. The food is good, I’m sure, but naialways wins in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ruth!
DeleteA ship's bell . . . others would have walked right by, but it takes a person with an eye for beauty in all things to see it as a moment it time to remember. I love it! I have an old ship's lantern that I bought in an antique shop 20 years ago . . . it stuck a cord in my heart and I had to have it. There is something about the sea . . . I'm with you, I would be enjoying the cruise for the cruise itself and not the food, entertainment and shopping. You can have all of that at home, but being on the water heading for new adventures, new sights and smells. Don't you just love the smell of airy air? It's invigorating!
ReplyDeleteHave a marvelous trip, I am so happy for you.
Connie :)
Thank you Connie, for this kind comment. Hope you enjoy the photos.
