Hummers at Sunset

The sky near sunset, July 18, 2020
Sitting out on the deck watching the hummingbirds.

The glow of sunset seemed to give a heavenly look
to the little hummingbird.

Hummingbirds like to feed in the evening.

Linking up today with Saturday's Critters. Thanks, Eileen, for hosting!

And more hummers ...

Note: I don't claim any kind of perfection on the photos below. They are nothing like the ones you can see at Audubon  However, they are not too bad for a novice at snapping pics of hummingbirds. I like the photos for helping me ID the birds, which isn't quite as simple as it might seem.

I like it when they settle down at the feeder and
relax while dining.

What I like here is the color of the feathers
being almost luminescent.

At first I thought this was a Ruby-throated ... but
now I think it is an Anna's

There are moments when they seem
totally at rest.

  4. Hi John- I like your photos of the Birds. I wish I had my Camera when a solitary Owl landed on our Cloths Line several years ago- the only OWL seen here in 40 years! (LOL). Best Wishes. KEV.

  6. They are the hardest birds to photograph...they flutter most of the time! Love the backgrounds and how beautiful these are! Happy weekend!

  12. I only time I ever saw a hummingbird (we don't have them here) I made a total mess of trying to get a photo. Between it's fluttering and my hands shaking with excitement I didn't stand a chance! I particularly like the shot where the feathers look so luminescent.

  13. Hi John,

You asked on my blog If I was Acadian.

As you know, Acadians are the descendants of the original French settlers in eastern Canada. My descendants were Scottish, Irish and English who settled in Newfoundland, further east. I do not have Acadian ancestry but there are many Acadians in Prince Edward Island.

  14. Hello from Virginia. We so enjoy your photography of your special place in this Covid world. Thank you for sharing with your reader's. The area we are in has reported 72 Covid cases. Two were hospitalized and we have zero deaths. Our schools reopen in Sept. with a 4 day week. Our church has not reopened as of yet. Everyone is required to wear a mask, social distance and stay home if possible. We are retired, so we stay sheltered at home. Trips to the grocery store only, as needed. Our Doctor's are doing tele-med calls for medicine refills. Please, stay safe and keep sharing your world. My husband and I visited your area last Sept. It is beautiful!!
