History Lesson: Louis W. Hill was Chairman of the Board of the Great Northern Railway in 1923. One of Louis’ greatest legacies was his enthusiastic promotion of tourism and the national park system. He maintained an interest in the American Indian tribes of Montana and became a collector of Blackfoot material, now housed in the Science Museum of Minnesota.

I looked closely at the photo to see if I could spot Granite Park Chalet. I also looked at my photos for that area when I did the one way hike from Logan Pass. Thank you for passing on a lovely history lesson!

ReplyDeleteInteresting to see ice cream on the menu. I couldn’t imagine refrigeration was so perfected at that time. It wasn’t where my family lived.

Louis sounds man with vision no doubt because tourism is sharing the burden of so many economies today specially western countries
