Vintage Dining Car -- The Milwaukee Road

From our collection of old railroad memorabilia ...

A little pamphlet describing the dining car. If there is a favorite place for most folks, this is it.

What we really enjoy is taking a closer look at some of the photos ... How about the one below ... The family enjoying dinner as the scenery rolls by. When looking at this really up-close and carefully, the scene out-the-window does look a little fabricated ... ha ha ... but reality wasn't too far away.

In the picture below, can you believe the space available and 4 cooks? We hope they were a "team"!

And in the scene below ... we find it fascinating that folks, most likely travelling on vacation, would be dressed in coats and ties, and hats for the ladies. And this wasn't "formal night" ... ha ha ... just an ordinary evening meal. What do you think? Did the real passengers dress like this?

Sunset into a group of skyscrapers.

The view in the photo above is looking out our window to the northwest. The tower crane won't be there much longer as that building is in the final stages of construction.

  1. How times have changed! Now everybody dresses in casual clothes and eats with plastic utensils. Even the food is plastic. :-)

  2. Everything was so fancy then! Look how dressed up they are, even wearing hats. They are on a train and using China. China! It's the little things that make life civilized.

Your views of Seattle remind me of the TV show Frasier.

  4. Hubby and I went on a train to Halifax. Was really our first but we enjoyed it.

We met nice people on it. Friendly.
