Capilano Suspension Bridge AND Green Lake

May 15th a Long Entry in my Journal ...

Green Lake AND Capilano Suspension Bridge to a
walk in a Rainforest

Green Lake was Photogenic this morning ...

A stop on the way to Green Lake was necessary to capture
this morning's sunrise looking over Lake Union.
The sun is rising over the Cascade Mountains to the east.

OK, this time I see 10 little ones and 1 mom.
Could they all be her's?
Amazing.

Sun is up over the trees on the horizon.
A good looking morning!

The only island in Green Lake is known as Duck Island.
It's a bit hard to capture because it so often blends in with the background.
Today's morning light sets it apart.

Looking back, for a moment, to May 10th, for my walk ...
Across Capilano Suspension Bridge and an Unusual
Rainforest Walk

At my hotel I asked a local expert for walk suggestions.
#1 was around Stanley Park ... see that one here.
#2 was this walk ... over the
Capilano Suspension Bridge and an unusual rainforest walk.
In the photo above, I'm at the pickup spot for the free
shuttle to Capilano. I'm on the first tour today.
May 10, 2019, Vancouver, BC

There is a free shuttle to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, about 15-20
minutes or so on one of those big tour busses. There is a fee
at the Park entrance.

From downtown Vancouver we must go over the
marvelous Lion's Gate Bridge. The bus driver suggested we come
up to the front to snap pics, if we wanted, and so I did.

At the Bridge Park entrance.
The sky is clear and it is unusually warm today.
Lucky to have such a great day for a walk in a rainforest.
The whole area here is a part of the
Pacific Temperate Rainforest

Sign celebrating Kiapalano,
British Columbia's earliest human connection to nature.

Many totem poles are on display.

To access the rainforest it is necessary
to cross over the Capilano River
I'm ready to cross the suspension bridge and will let
these folks ahead of me get their photos done.

A little bit of selfie if we include the shadow.
😉

Walking across this suspension bridge isn't for those afraid of heights.
It sways, for sure, and you can make it sway more if you want.
It's about 230 feet (70m) down to the river below.

After crossing the bridge and looking back.
I got lucky again and was one of the first to
get across.

Snack station, of course.

Several cool signs tell the story.
They are designed to look like books.

Beginning the walk in the rainforest.

Next comes the most intresting part ... the walk continues
suspended between the giant trees.

Giants

Really big giants
that need a lot of rain!

It is a challenge to capture the feeling of
looking up at tree tops. It's
WAY up there!

Walkway suspended between trees.

Yes, it's a long way down there.

I love the way so many humans have to get "in the picture."
I don't feel like I need to get in the picture to remember I was there.
😊

Back down on ground level and impressed with the
SIZE of these trees.
Yes, size does matter.

All done with the walk ... spent about two hours going just about
2 miles around inside this park. So, slow going, but fascinating.

Decided to wrap it up with a cup of ice cream.
Two scoops ... Raspberry Cream and Lemon Sorbet
Ready to get back on the bus and back to downtown where
I added on a few more steps just good measure.

  2. Hello, I love the beautiful sunrise images at Green Lake. Your hike at the park and suspension bridge looks like a fun time. I would hope no one shakes the bridge if I was on there. I get spooked easily, lol. The giant trees are beautiful, are they redwood trees? I have seen the giant trees in California. Wonderful post and photos. Wishing you a happy day!

  4. I love the shot of Duck Island. That is beautiful. I am so glad you walked over Capilano and the other suspension walks and took these pictures, cause I would never have the guts to do that. Yes,I'm afraid of heights and I don't like the walk underneath my feet to be swaying. Beautiful pictures for sure.

  5. I don't like heights that much, but I would give crossing that bridge a good try. Looks like beautiful scenery and fun times.

  6. Yes, I remember the Capilino bridge when we wee kids. What excitement. Oh the ducks? If you watch a mom swim by , she will usually have a different number. When she passes another Mom they usually exchange a few.

  8. I’ve never been on that suspension bridge but want to do it one day! Beautiful photos!

As many birds as I see here, I’ve never seen ducklings.

  9. Hi John- beautiful scenery there- love those trees...it is amazing the size and girth of trees can reach if left to their own devises. Regards. KEV.

  10. When we walk in our area around here, most of it is in temperate rainforest, too. I love the bridge pictures especially, and the beauty you captured for me to enjoy. Thanks, John. :-)
