Notes to self ...

I try not to put too much into my journal here about politics because, these days, it is usually such a downer. However, I absolutely loved my Mayor's response to this latest thing Trump has come up with to punish sanctuary cities. I've never seen a leader of our country try to openly punish certain parts of the country through the actions of the Federal Government. This isn't "just politics."

I have never seen a president act so childishly. He is trying to punish Seattle, a metropolitan area with population of over 3.7 million by sending immigrants here. I am so proud of what our Mayor, Jenny A. Durkan, said in an open message to T ...

"Here’s a message to President Trump: Seattle is not afraid of immigrants and refugees. In fact, we have always welcomed people who have faced tremendous hardships around the world. Immigrants and refugees are part of Seattle’s heritage, and they will continue to make us the city of the future.

What does scare us? A president and federal government that would seek to weaponize a law enforcement agency to punish perceived political enemies. A would-be despot who thinks the rule of law does not apply to him."

  1. Yes, Trump is certainly a downer when he uses vicious unthought out tactics to try and get what he wants whether it helps the country or not.

  2. Hello, love the heron images. Another nice walk around the lake. Kudos to your mayor, Trump is a bully and does not act like a president.

  3. I just learned this morning that Canada has an official system to allow people to harbor immigrants in their homes, and several cities in the US are hoping to set up something similar. And thank you for the two heron captures. They are fast becoming one of my favorite sights around Green Lake, thanks to you. :-)

  4. ...well John, when the Electoral College elected this vindictive prick, life in these good old United States took a serious turn to the darkside of things.

  5. Love the heron shots. I guess I really like them, because I have had such a hard time getting good shots of this bird.

  6. Hi John- On Politics- we're coming up to Federal Elections in four weeks time here. I already know who I'm voting for- if the Opposition are voted in - Australia will be completly sunk! Personally I cannot stand Politics- it however is at every level of life - and the meddling in our manufacturing, economic and financial future has to stop! Rant over. Have a great week there in Seattle John. Regards. KEV.

  7. Why should TX, NM, and CA absorb them all? Just asking.

    1. Hello MacTexas, Thank you for the comment, or shall I say, for the link to KOMO’s production, Seattle is Dying. You didn’t indicate the reason for the link up but may I assume it doesn’t apply to my pictures around Green Lake? :-) Probably more to my “note to self” that I’m proud of my Mayor for her letter to Trump about sending immigrants to sanctuary cities. For those of you who have not watched Seattle is Dying in its entirety, I do recommend it. I suspect there are only a few Seattleites who would say we don’t have a problem here with the homeless. But a connection to immigrants? Not so much. Here in Washington State immigrants are taking the jobs that “great Americans” don’t want, such as, farm work, and the multitude of service jobs that pay minimum wage. According to Seattle is Dying about 90% of our homelessness is due to drug addiction, especially the opioids. When confronted, our City Council members say they are trying to find a solution to the problem but say the bottom line is they don’t want humans dying on the streets. I agree with that last point and so we’ll see where we go from here. Hopefully the city will not die, but who knows. One thing is for sure, more immigrants doesn’t necessarily mean more homeless. For the most part, the immigrants are just looking for a way to live and escape the horrendous conditions in their home countries.

    2. I am thankful there are no homeless camps around Green Lake, at least none in the pictures, so you can walk safely.

  9. I thought the comment section on this post may turn into a screaming bag of cats, so I stayed way out here in the safety of silence. So far no screaming, so here I am.

You know...there is an answer to all of this, the people fleeing their homelands due to war, economics, or crime and also the drug crisis in America. They all have the same cause.

    Why has all this happened?

"Men have forgotten God; that’s why all this has happened." -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Bless you and Seattle for taking the people in, but I am afraid you will be overwhelmed. It is a huge problem. Concerning immigration, there are real problems in a lot of places that need to be fixed. Who can do that? Only they can. How are they supposed to do it? I don't know. But if we take in millions and then millions more eventually we will all be overwhelmed.

    1. Hi Sandi, Thank you so much for your comment here. Yes, I was also concerned that the bag of screaming cats could turn up right here. My take on all this is that Alexander Solzhenitsny was right on in his words you quoted. Honestly, I don't have answers about how to fix this issue. But I do believe God is in control. My suggestion is that humankind better reverse course and get closer to God. Otherwise we are all going to pay a price. Thank you again, Sandi, for your comment. John
